Saturday Six with Chuck OGB 5/30/2020

Here are six albums that Chuck OGB has purchased on Bandcamp. Chuck writes for Sleeping Village Reviews.

Listen to "Diesel Breath." If you like it, we can be friends. If you don't, we can't be friends. It's that simple.

These dudes mean business. Riffs with a syrupy thickness that are extra juicy because the vocals, bass and drums are given the same burly treatment. "Old Smoke" doesn't contain that irritating excess room-mic mix typically used to fatten up a sound, rather everything is big, but tight with a clarity and separation that must be commended. Crushingly heavy old-school Mastodon/ Inter Arma-like riffs with a proggy death metal feel, you cannot sleep on these guys.

Laura Vieira will soothe your aches and agitations to induce a serene trance interrupted only by Kelly Schilling's shrieks and demands for an awakening adrenaline rush. Followed in the same vein as the brilliant "Emergence" released earlier in 2019, a heavy, jazzy, progressive, amalgam of an attention-grabbing experience awaits.

Doublegeddon makes it very easy for us lesser minds; there are not one, but two (two!) Geddons in Doublegeddon. Got it? Easy. Direct and to the point, this traditional heavy metal band pushes guitar and vocals in your face to 11 and keeps it there. No extra charge for the gratuitous "motherfucker" or the mid-song firebreathing battle to the death.

What fun these tracks are. Energetic and motivating, lots of up-tempo tracks that kind of put you in a Van Halen "1984" kind of mood. Electric and funky, I couldn't help but feel like I was listening to the end credits of an old Sega Genesis game with a few extra bits (dust off that MERCS cartridge and get to work!)

Some dudes just like Jack Daniels straight up and wouldn't be caught dead calling it ‘neat'. Those same bubbas got shit like the "Red Sky EP" blasting in their truck on an off-road jaunt in dead-of-night desert heat. Riffs.
